The most awaited festivities in Alicante are here\u2026 are you ready to experience them with us?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a few days June arrives, the most special and festive month in the city of Alicante and with it, the Bonfires of San Juan, unforgettable days full of tradition, festivities, music and much more that you can’t miss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The origin of the Fogueres de Sant Joan seems to date back to 1928 and since then it has been the Alicante festival par excellence that has adapted to the times and the needs of Alicante society. It was in that year that an association called Alicante Atracci\u00f3n was created, dedicated to promoting tourism in the city. This is where the figure of Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Py appears, who after explaining the birth of the Fallas of Valencia wrote: \u2018The Bonfires of Alicante are well known for their tradition since ancient times, we Alicante people should give them the same character that has been given to the Valencian Fallas\u2019. This idea aimed at attracting tourism, as Valencia did, was accepted by the ruling class and the Alicante Atracci\u00f3n association was authorised to organise the \u2018first Bonfires of San Juan\u2019, (the first allowed by the City Council).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Later it became known that Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Py played his cards to make the fiesta official before the authorities with the idea of attracting tourists, although he always conceived the Bonfires for the use and enjoyment of the people of Alicante.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is how the city of Alicante dresses up every year between 20 and 24 June. These are the official festivities of the city, declared of International Tourist Interest in 1983 and of Intangible Cultural Interest in 2014. These days of festivities are divided into different acts that begin with the Entrada de Bandas, La Plant\u00e1, the offering of flowers to the Virgen del Remedio, the Awards Ceremony, the International Folklore Parade and the Crem\u00e1 on the night of 24th June, the feast of St. John the Baptist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But one of the most awaited events is the Masclet\u00e1, a typical act of the Valencian Community celebrated during fiestas (pyrotechnic shot that causes a noisy and rhythmic composition), which in Alicante is celebrated every Saturday in June and especially during the Hogueras de San Juan fiestas, from the 18th to the 24th of June, in the Plaza de los Luceros, the emblem of the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
